Åse Gornitzka: University governance – tensions between professional management and ‘living autonomy’ in flagship universities

Dec 2015 | School Field Seminar

We invite you to the pre-New Year’s School Field Seminar, where we will host the internationally renowned Norwegian researcher Prof. Dr. Åse Gornitzka (University of Oslo). Åse is primarily known as a successful researcher of European processes in connection with education and research policies; in recent years, she has also been involved in educational reforms in the Western Balkans. She will present herself with an introductory lecture entitled University governance – tensions between professional management and ‘living autonomy’ in flagship universities.

The presentation is based on the findings of a comparative research project on European research-intensive universities, in which our guest recently participated. It is a topic that has recently been at the center of interest among European universities, and is also coming to the center in our country: what is – and what should be – the relationship between autonomous research (and teaching, it would be worth adding) and modern “academic management”? Where is the current change in this relationship leading? As usual, the introductory lecture will be followed by an open discussion, in which we will ask questions and seek answers together with our guest.

We therefore kindly invite you to join us on Tuesday, 15 December 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in room 114 at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, Kardeljeva pl. 16, Ljubljana.

As usual, we are publishing material to stimulate the discussion: University Autonomy and Organizational Change Dynamics.
