The main goal of the research was the collection, selection and editing of data and the analysis of trends in the enrollment and structure of students or graduates, or in the success of their studies, as well as the analysis of some other processes in tertiary education.
So far, this data has been largely fragmented and, in certain parameters that are important for monitoring and planning higher education, even unrelated; a number of methodological issues also had to be processed. In addition, the aim of the research was to show these processes over a relatively long period from the beginning of the 1980s to the present day. This is to define its originality: to collect and organize key data, on the basis of which it would be possible to form a picture of the key processes in the development of tertiary education in Slovenia in the decade before independence, in the years of transition and up to the entry into the European Union. The results of the research are primarily intended to support further analyses, both those in the field of educational policies and the modern history of education, as well as those that problematize the adequacy of tertiary education structures and possible measures taken at the state and/or institutional level.
