2004 Analysis of trends in structure of students and graduates in tertiary education in Slovenia (1981 – 2004)
The principal goal of the research was to collect, select and arrange data and to analyze trends in
enrollment, in the structure of students and graduates and in their efficiency at studies and also
the analysis of some other processes in tertiary education. Previously, such data were mostly
fragmentary and also unconnected in some specific aspects that are very significant for
supervision and planning of higher education. During this process, many methodological
questions had to be addressed in more detail. Additionaly, the aim od the research was to show
these processes in a relatively long period from the beginning of the eighties until today. Its
originality could be defined by these points: to collect and to organize key data as a basis which makes
possible to present key processes in developement of tertiary education in Slovenia in the decade before the
attainment of independence, during the period of transition and up to the EU accession. The results of the
research are intended as an assistance to further analyses, either from the field of educational
policies and contemporary history of education or those which tackle the issue of adequacy of
tertiary education structures and feasible measures reached at state and/or institutional level.
